Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of BISSELL SpotBot Pet Hands-Free Compact Deep Cleaner, Blue Illusion, 1200ACustomer Review: DISAPPOINTING Summary: 3 Stars
I have old animals and they have accidents. I bought the SpotBot after reading rave reviews that this machine got rid of old pet stains. It sounded too good to be true and it was! I tried twice, both with the pet formula and with the everyday formula, to get out a couple of old pet stains but they're still there. It's probably fine on fresh stains, but not particularly on set in unless the formulations aren't strong enough. Perhaps if I had used a pre-formula . . . At any rate, the machine is very handy, but I have yet to see if it works on any other stain.
Customer Review: Definitely Worth the Money Summary: 4 Stars
We have three cats and a big dog, all of whom have sensitive stomachs, and we have to clean our carpets often. For big jobs, I use the Hoover SteamVac Carpet Cleaner with Clean Surge, F5914-900, which cleans the carpets well, but it's a pain to pull out for small cleaning jobs. My husband did some research and found this machine for spot cleaning between regular whole-house cleanings. I had just cleaned the carpets before ordering the SpotBot and needed to clean a few spots by the time it arrived, so I used it right away. Here is what I found with this machine:
PROS
* Arrives in one piece, pre-assembled, so you can start using it right out of the box
* Comes with some sample cleaning solution - (1) 8 oz. bottle of Bissell 2X Pet Stain and Odor Advanced Formula, 32 Ounces, 74R7 and (1) 16 oz. bottle of Bissell 0801 Oxy GEN2 Multi Purpose Oxygen Boost -32oz (enough of each for at least two full tanks)
* Very lightweight, compact, and easy to move
* Cleans the spots very well on the surface and set-in stain automatic settings
* Very easy to switch between automatic and manual cleaning
* The hose and attachments are secured to the base of the machine
* Long cord
CONS
* Only does an okay job with the manual/hand-held setting and attachment
* The automatic settings leave the cleaned carpet very wet, so you'll need to use the hand-held/manual attachment to suck up the extra water.
TIPS
* Use warm water when filling the solution tank.
* I used a little less solution than called for because it was leaving the carpet slightly crunchy in one of our rooms. This fixed the problem.
* A full tank will clean four spots on the surface stain setting.
* To help keep the hose clean after using the hand-held/manual setting, suck up some clean water.
* To help keep the water tanks (solution and dirty) clean, rinse them out after using the machine.
Customer Review: Disappointing Summary: 2 Stars
Wow, I read such good reviews that I really feel let down.
My carpet is less than a year old, but so is the dog, so the stains are frequent. Unfortunately, he is not considerate enough to mess in the same configuration as the SpotBot brush, so it typically takes a couple cycles of SpotBot to get at the mess--and it uses A LOT of cleaner with each cycle. It's getting quite expensive. (And don't think that you can just walk away. In 4-7 minutes, the SpotBot will start an annoying beeping to tell you it's finished--and it won't stop until you come hit the off button. Not a huge problem, but I really don't appreciate having to make extra trips up and down stairs. (And I have to leave the room when it's going. It's very loud--not loud enough to hurt your ears, but loud enough to be extremely annoying.)
But I wouldn't mind too much if it did a great job cleaning. Sadly, it doesn't. ESPECIALLY on the expensive burber carpet, where it only hits the tallest loops. Yet despite not getting it very clean, it does leave very obvious crop circles in the carpet. Looks ridiculous--and, at least on my newer carpet, those circles stay a LONG time, despite being vacuumed and walked on.
Customer Review: Do Not Use as Directed Summary: 4 Stars
This is my second SpotBot; I've been using one of these things for a couple of years now, repeatedly, so let me help you be most effective with it.
First let me explain my home. I have a 3-bedroom ranch inhabited by two adults, one adult cat, two geriatric cats with medical issues (stomach troubles), a Golden Retriever puppy and two small humans, ages 7 and 9.
My carpet is already trashed. The kids have spilled fingernail polish on it, the vacuum has eaten on it...it was low-grade contractor's carpet to begin with, and 11 years later, even the Stanley Steemer people are recommending to put money into replacing it, not cleaning it.
Nevertheless, we don't have the cash for that right now, so I need to clean the thing. I would estimate that the cats tend to barf on the carpet an average of 4 times a week; often more. So my SpotBot just lives on standby, and gets hauled out nearly every day.
If the stain you're working on is fresh, blot up what you can with paper towels first. Next, spray the concentrated cleaner directly onto the stain (did I mention my carpet was already trashed? I wouldn't do that with a nice, new carpet), fill the SpotBot with clean, clear water, place it on top of the stain and let it go.
If it's the spot where the cat barfed behind the couch a month ago and you didn't find it 'till now, pick up what you can with paper towel (if it's bile, nothing; if it's a pile of dried kibble barf, you can peel much of it off), and let the cleaner sit for five minutes.
Once the machine stops running, you will have a lovely, wet little "crop circle" in your carpet. Get three layers of paper towels, fold them over once, and place it over the crop circle. Stand on it for a bit to soak up as much as you can. Ruffle the nap of the carpet around a bit when you're done and it will dry good as new.
No barf.
No crunchy carpet.
Uses way less cleaner.
I generally get about six runs of the machines for every tank of water. If you leave it SITTING AND BEEPING, do be aware that the machine is happily peeing yet more water onto your carpet. It WILL leak! Our previous one didn't do that, but the newer models seem to have an incontinence problem. :-( Be sure you remove it promptly. I let mine sit in the bathtub while I empty the tanks and then while it dries off. Oh, and flush your dirty tank water. Much nicer to your sinks!
Customer Review: Does the job, but began leaking Summary: 4 Stars
We love how well this works--it truly does clean up nearly any spot. The work-on-its-own feature is also quite nice. And the hose works surprisingly well. However, after about 1 year of use (once about every two weeks), it began leaking. If we fill it up, and don't use every last drop of fluid for the job, we just have to dump the rest of the fluid because otherwise it just leaks out. That has been our only disappointment.
